FYI about EYWC
First and foremost, we would like to thank Keith Watkins for his years of service to EYWC. Keith has been involved in youth wrestling for the past 8 years and most recently served as EYWC's Head Coach for the past 3 years. His shoes will be hard to fill because anyone that knows Keith, knows that he is passionate about the sport and put the kids' best interests first above all else. Keith focused on technique, conditioning and sportsmanship and this ultimately led to much success for EYWC.
Jeff Spires will be taking over for Keith as Head Coach. He much prefers the term Head Administrator though because he feels there are many other EYWC volunteers that know more about wrestling and coaching then he does. The Assistant Coaches will be familiar faces - namely Rob Brest, Phil Laird and Mark Myers. A newcomer to the room this year will be Charlie Bayle, fresh off a long stint of active duty with his military reserve unit (thanks for your service!).
Helping out on the novice end will be Matt Caro, Eric Dedrick, Chuck Leehan and Dean Wright.
Practices will remain in the wrestling room at General McLane High School. However, we are shaving 30 minutes off our practice time - now held from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM. We hope to streamline practice this year in order to to the keep the kid's attention span in check while still concentrating on technique, conditioning and sportsmanship. Check out the calendar on the webpage for an updated practice schedule through January of 2012.
We certainly subscribe to the theory of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and EYWC has had great success in the past three years, winning several team tournament titles and qualifying over 30 youth wrestlers to the PJW state tournament. The tweaks mentioned above will cater to the different schedules of our current coaching staff and will help them to get the most out of a predominantly young squad.
Sign-ups are November 9th at General McLane High school - we hope to see you there!
